Disclaimer: don’t be put off by the amount of pages in this book. It quite easily could be one of the longest books you’ll read in a while (936 pages) BUT it is so very worth it. Shantaram follows the story of an Australian convict’s escape from prison straight to Bombay - and that’s just one of the many places he visits. The book is full of such rich descriptions which make you feel so emotionally attached to both the characters and the city of Bombay.
It’s full of wise words in between a whole lot of storytelling and is definitely up there amongst some of the best books I’ve read.
